Colleges in Illinois

Illinois is most famous for the city that resides in it, Chicago, the windy city. Although, there is so much more that meets the eye. Located in the Midwestern United States, it is a breeding ground for jobs and economic increase. The state’s jazz and blues origin gives Illinois a culturally rich background. Here are the top ten schools:

1. Chicago State University

CSU is a public four year university, positioned in Chicago, Illinois. Launched in 1987, the urban campus houses over 4,500 students. Chicago State’s athletics compete in the NCAA Division I conferences. Also, all of the National Pan-Hellenic council fraternities and sororities currently have chapters at CSU.

2. Illinois State University

Illinois State boasts existing as the oldest public university in the state of Illinois, presiding in the town named Normal. Considered a national university, ISU has over 20,000 students attending the establishment. Illinois State offers, now, six academic colleges, including the newly launched College of Nursing.

3. Lake Forest College

Lake Forest is a four year private university. It is considered a liberal arts university and has over 1,500 students representing approximately 76 countries. The professor/student ratio is 13:1, so it is considered a very close knit university. Currently, Lake Forest has about 1,500 student enrolled.

4. Eastern Illinois University

Eastern Illinois is a small town university presiding in Charleston, Illinois. Initially, Eastern Illinois was a two year college for teachers, but Eastern Illinois eventually developed into a full blown university. Currently, there are 150 organizations for students, and they offer four colleges that include: Arts and Humanities, Business and Applied Sciences, Education and Professional Studies, and Sciences.

5. Danville Area Community College

DACC is a two year independent college that currently has 3,700 students in attendance. The public college is located in Danville, Illinois, and possesses 75 acres on campus. Their school colors are green and gold, offer occupational degrees, skill development, and customized training.

6. Northeastern Illinois University

Northeastern Illinois is a public university that was developed in 1867. With the location in Chicago, Illinois, 9,140 students attend Northeastern Illinois University. NEIU offer three colleges, and boasts about 1,800 alumni each year. Also, the student/faculty ratio is 16:1.

7. Illinois Central College

ICC is a community college that is unusually large. With an enrollment of over 13,000 students, their location is in East Peoria, Illinois. Illinois Central College is very involved in their campus and student living. They have more over 40 student organizations that include clubs. Also, more than 3,000 classes are offered every semester.

8. North Central College

North Central is a four year, Liberal Arts College. North Central is private and religiously affiliated. The religious affiliation is United Methodist Church. Located in Plainfield, Illinois, the 65 acre campus has distinction of one of the top two most selective colleges in the state.

9. Governors State University

GSU is a brand new four year, public university, located in the south of Chicago, Illinois. The campus is a suburban one, and measures about 750 acres. Governors State was originally an upper division university, but will admit its first freshman this year. GSU offers 22 bachelors, 4 doctoral, 22 certificate programs, and 27 graduates.

10. Black Hawk College

Black Hawk College is a community college that was established in 1946. Founded as Moline Community College in (because of the one of the town names), it was reestablished as Black Hawk in 1961. Black Hawk provides many career training programs, and more than 150 arts and sciences credits, many of which can transfer.
