Fair testing

In science, a fair test is one carried out under fair conditions. This means that all conditions must be identical except the variable being tested.

For instance, in an experiment testing plant growth with differing amounts of water, the plants must be provided with the same nutrients, grown in the same location, and watered from the same source to ensure that growth differences are due to the amount of water provided rather than other environmental factors.
